JOB- Machine Shop Manager

LOCATION- Essex

TERM- Permanent

SALARY- Circa £40,000 per annum (Dependent on experience, please advise what you’re looking for)

My client are a leading supplier of varied technical equipment and machinery to different industries and they are looking to take on a Machine Shop Manager, on a permanent basis, in the Essex area.

The Machine Shop Manager will ideally have the following attributes:
  • HNC/ HND/ NVQ/ Degree qualified or similar in Engineering
  • Have previous experience working within a similar Machine Shop/ Engineering / Manufacturing environment
  • Excellent machining knowledge and experience – both metals and plastics
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent man-management skills
  • Be able to work well with colleagues in other departments
  • Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Have a strong technical background
  • Be organised, efficient and driven
  • Be able to work well under pressure where fast turnaround times are needed
The Machine Shop Manager role will involve:
  • Reporting to the Operations Manager
  • Managing the machine shop day to day – high variety and low volume
  • Reviewing production orders and considering materials, processing and finishing requirements
  • Ensuring that staff have what they need to make the required parts
  • Allocating work to the team
  • Inspecting completed parts and ensuring they are in line with the relevant drawings
  • Managing the subcontracting of parts for external processing
  • Liaising with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are met (Technical & Drawing Office)
  • Organising both machine servicing and repairs
  • Being involved in the purchasing of materials, equipment and tooling
